The Holy Deer is an elegant 350 square meter apartment in the heart of Rome that will fascinate you with its history and its secrets, a type of welcoming and comfortable luxury, cared for in every detail and that leaves nothing to chance… HOLY DEER The apartment is located inside the church of Sant’Agnese in Agone attributed to Francesco Borromini, and overlooks the Fountain of the Four Rivers by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in Piazza Navona. It was the residence of Pope Innocent X, the hideaway where the pontiff held secret trysts with is sister-in-law, Olimpia Pamphili and lies at the crossroads of Baroque Architecture. It was a special and outrageous time for architecture, taking most people by shock and surprise – everything before that had been ruled by classicism, practicality, and distinct orders. This stark turning point came out of the Catholic Church’s Counter Reformation, when the church launched a sensory and emotional appeal to its people through art and architecture. THE PROPERTY The very concept of “meraviglia” links seemingly distant historical periods such as the Baroque and our post-modern era in a constant and intimate exchange of allusions, quotations and implications. The Holy Deer is a contemporary home immersed within a historical context. The two secluded rooms are linked to one another through a study, music room, library, lounge for conversing or watching TV, dining room and kitchen. Conceived as a place to gather together and socialize, each of these spaces has been meticulously designed to help guests enjoy the intimacy of a private retreat to the fullest, and to indulge in creative idleness. THE POPE’S BEDROOM The masterpiece of the apartment was theroom created for Pope Innocent X himself. The room is enthralled with history and speculation. With ceilings 8 meters tall topped by the most spectacularly detailed fresco, Allegrini depicts the story of Dido. The bed became the protagonist in the design. A signature piece constructed of reclaimed wood from the forrest of the owners immersed in raw brass creates a new encased artistic matter. The process, developed by a wood artist speaks to the clients regard to the history and the story of Lady Olympia. The high platform for the bed seeks to bring those who sleep there closer to the fascination of the fresco above. The headboard behind is covered in a traditional Florentine pattern hand made on an antique loom. Opposite of the bed are two wardrobes of the same wood immersed in brass. Above each, a name, Olympia & Innocent. THE ANTIBACTERIAL SYSTEM The Holy Deer San Lorenzo City Lodges is the first property in Italy to use, as part of his creation, the innovative esi Antibacterial System. Every place with esi (emitter silver ions) is permanently sanitized by silver ions. The hidden technology ensures a complete and continual antibacterical system that in no way interfers with the design of the spaces.
